Spicer Photography is moving

  • Published July 12th, 2016 by Pam Spicer

After almost 30 years here in the desert we have decided it is time to move up the hill to the Prescott area.  The move date is coming up so I just wanted to at least add this note in the blog so that you know what is going on here.  I will still continue to come to the Phoenix area for some photo sessions, but will be taking the business in a new direction once we get settled in Prescott. Stay tuned for more info. It has been my pleasure to work with so many wonderful people over the years, and I look forward to the next chapter.

Year End Gratitude

  • Published December 19th, 2015 by Pam Spicer

Well hello Blog - it's been a long time. Sorry, but I've been busy - 'tis the season and all. . . but the last of the holiday orders have been sent off to the lab and things are getting a little more back to "normal" now. I can't believe another year is almost gone!  The business of being a portrait photographer has certainly changed over all the years since I started Spicer Photography in 1997 (yes, do you remember medium format film), and to be honest it is not an easy way to make a living. No photographer ever went into this business because they thought they would get rich.

But as a profession I must say it can't be beat for the intrinsic reward of making people happy, and giving them images of moments that they can enjoy and pass on to future generations. I have been lucky to watch the babies that I photographed back in the early days grow up and start having babies of their own, and they have felt comfortable enough with me to let me capture those memories for them too. How cool is that?!  So I am very grateful that I have been able to do this job that I love so much for all of these years, and even more grateful to all of my long term clients that have let me into their lives and have come back to me year after year to capture the memories.

I recieved this email yesterday from one of my clients, and I hesitate sharing it because I have never been really great with self promotion (probably the same with most artists - we just want to do our creative work and hope the business part of it just falls into place and that somehow people will come to buy what we can offer), but I will share it anyway because I think it is important for all of us to say THANKS for a job well done to the small businesses we work with, or to the emplyees of a large business that go above and beyond to make sure you as the client are happy and having a good experience.

"If I were building the perfect professional photographer/business person to deal with, I could not improve on you and your expertise in dealing with people and dedication to perfection!!! I have worked in sales of one kind or another for about 90% of my working life and consider myself a pretty discerning person and judge of character, for what it is worth. Thanks so much."

My reply went along the lines of "Aww Shucks. . ."  but it made my day, and reminded me once again of the reason I love my job. So if you come across someone that you are dealing with in the business world (and especially those of us in business for ourselves where a paycheck, healhcare and paid time off are often just a dream), and you think they are doing a good job, please let them know. I will do the same. It does make a difference.

Happy holidays to you, and a happy new year for all of us in 2016!

Fall Portrait Season is Here

  • Published October 23rd, 2015 by Pam Spicer

Our Flagstaff portrait sessions were great fun as always! Now we are gearing up for the busy Fall portrait season here in the Valley of the Sun. Thankfully it is cooling off again and we can head outside for our sessions.  Best time of day is late afternoon (just before sunset), but early morning sessions are also still popular for famiy portraits with young children. A free consultation here at the studio (or by phone if you can't get up here first) is always the best way to plan for the portrait session. We can help determine the best location for what you want, and then discuss clothing colors that would be great. It also gives you a chance to see what new products are out there so that we can make sure to shoot for the products you may want (fine art portraits for the wall, coffee table books, greeting cards, gallery wraps. . .).

Premium time slots do fill up, so call or email now to get on the books for your photo session. I'd love to capture some great images for you to cherish and share!

Portraits in Flagstaff

  • Published August 30th, 2014 by Pam Spicer, Scottsdale Arizona Photographer

Once again I am doing a "Portrait Safari" to Flagstaff to capture your images in the aspens and pine trees of northern Arizona.  These portrait sessions are a lot of fun, and hopefully we will hit the fall color at its peak.  The sessions will be held over the weekend of September 27th this year.  These sessions are by advanced appointment and fill up quickly, so let me know as soon as possible if you want to secure a time.  Here are a few images from years past. . .

Summer Portrait Safaris

  • Published May 28th, 2014 by Pam Spicer

Wow - I just realized that I haven't been posting anything here for a while. I am still here, keeping busy, finished now with high school seniors. Congrats to all of them, and check out a few of the graduating class of 2014 here:

As for summer plans, well, I hope to get out of the heat as much as possible, and therefore want to remind everyone that I will do a portrait safari pretty much anywhere in Arizona. So if your plans are taking you to the rim country, or Flagstaff, and you would like some fun portraits to capture the memories please let me know. I am still deciding if the San Diego portrait sessions will be a go this July, so let me know if you are interested in beach portraits this summer too.  Stay tuned here or on my facebook page for more updates on where I will be this summer. Hope to see you soon.
